[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] U.S. President Joe Biden will hold a virtual meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 11th (local time).
According to the White House on the 10th, spokesperson Jen Psaki stated in a press release that the two leaders will discuss the situation regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine, as well as ways to alleviate global supply instability of food and materials during this meeting.
They will also consult on strengthening the global economy, maintaining a free, open, and rules-based international order to promote security, democracy, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
This meeting draws attention as it takes place amid U.S. pressure on the international community to join sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. India participates in the Quad, a security dialogue led by the U.S. targeting China, along with Australia and Japan, but has not joined the sanctions against Russia. India abstained from voting on the resolution condemning Russia at the United Nations General Assembly on the 2nd of last month and also abstained from the vote on suspending Russia's membership on the U.N. Human Rights Council on the 8th.
Since the outbreak of the Ukraine war, it is known that India has imported at least 13 million barrels of Russian crude oil.
