[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol stated on the 10th that his visit to former President Park Geun-hye is "likely scheduled for Tuesday (the 12th) afternoon."
On the same day, after announcing the appointment of eight ministers including the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance at the transition office in Tongui-dong, Seoul, Yoon told reporters this. According to Yoon's camp, the meeting between Yoon and former President Park is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. on the 12th at Park Geun-hye’s residence in Dalseong-gun, Daegu.
Yoon plans to visit Daegu and Gyeongbuk for a one-night, two-day trip from the 11th to 12th to listen to issues related to regional balanced development. Accordingly, there had been speculation about Yoon visiting former President Park’s residence in Dalseong-gun, Daegu.
When former President Park was discharged from Samsung Seoul Hospital and moved into her residence in Dalseong, Daegu on the 24th of last month, Yoon sent Seo Il-jun, head of administration at the transition office, to the Daegu residence to deliver a congratulatory flower basket on her discharge, expressing his wish to visit and greet her "as soon as next week if health permits."
At that time, Yoon also mentioned, "I have been postponing my visit to Daegu and Gyeongbuk while waiting for (former President Park) to be discharged and come to her residence."
Attention is focused on whether Yoon can put behind the past bad relations by visiting former President Park. During the Park Geun-hye administration in 2013, Yoon exposed pressure on investigations while investigating the National Intelligence Service’s online comment manipulation scandal. Because of this, Yoon was unable to hold key positions and remained in less prominent roles throughout the Park administration.
Later, in 2016, he served as the chief investigator overseeing the entire investigation team of the special prosecutor Park Young-soo’s team investigating the state affairs manipulation scandal, and was later appointed as the head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office during the Moon Jae-in administration.
It is anticipated that during his visit to former President Park, Yoon will personally request her attendance at the presidential inauguration ceremony scheduled to be held at the National Assembly on May 10.
