Musk: "Cybertruck to Launch Next Year"... Will He Keep It This Time? Before the start of the Cyber Rodeo event held on the 7th in Austin, Texas, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, posted a photo

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, the world's largest electric vehicle company, said at a new factory inauguration event held on the 7th (local time), "We will start production of the Cybertruck next year." The Cybertruck is an electric pickup truck developed by Tesla, a model whose release has been delayed several times.

According to local media such as Fortune, CEO Musk initially announced when unveiling the Cybertruck in 2019 that production would begin in 2021. At the unveiling event he personally attended, the Cybertruck prototype was revealed, but the armored glass broke easily, causing some embarrassment.

Last year, due to supply chain issues caused by the pandemic, production was delayed, and it was expected to be released around the end of 2022. Later, in January this year, he changed his statement, saying that customer deliveries would most likely begin in 2023. CEO Musk had also predicted in 2015 that full autonomous driving would reach completion around 2018. The function of vehicles driving themselves still has a long way to go.

The event was held to commemorate the establishment of a new factory in Texas, USA. Following Shanghai, China, and recently the Berlin factory in Germany, Tesla is actively expanding its footprint. CEO Musk also said at the event, "This year we will scale up, and next year we will introduce various new products." He previewed new models including the Cybertruck, Semi truck, and the high-performance Roadster.

While Tesla is preparing the Cybertruck, existing automakers are moving quickly. Electric vehicle startup Rivian began mass production at the end of last year, and Ford plans to produce and start customer deliveries of the F-150 electric pickup truck Lightning sometime this year.
