[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) will allocate Genesis Points differently on the Korean Tour starting from the 2022 season.
On the 8th, it announced, "We have decided to apply weighting to each tournament," adding, "The player who accumulates the most points in a season will receive the year-end Grand Prize." Genesis Points convert players' performance into points. Until last season, the Korean Tour awarded 1000 points to the winner regardless of the tournament's prize money scale. From this year, the Genesis Championship, KPGA Championship, Kolon Korea Open, and tournaments hosted by the Korean Tour's naming sponsor will award 1300 points to the winner.
Additionally, tournaments held for more than 20 years with a total prize money of over 1.2 billion KRW will award 1200 points to the winner. The GS Caltex Maekyung Open, Shinhan Donghae Open, and SK Telecom Open fall into this category. For the remaining tournaments, winners will receive 1000 points as in the previous year. CEO Kim Byung-joon explained, "This measure is to strengthen the competitiveness of the Korean Tour in line with the trends of foreign tours," adding, "This decision will further motivate players' spirit of challenge."
