[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Ulsan Ulju-gun will provide public interest allowances to farmers and fishermen to support the public interest value of agriculture, fisheries, and rural areas starting this year.
The public interest allowance is being implemented based on the "Ulju-gun Ordinance on Supporting the Public Interest Value of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Rural Areas," enacted in 2021.
Recipients of the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen must qualify as farmers or fishermen as defined by individual laws.
Additionally, as of January 1, 2022, the head of a farming or fishing household who has continuously had their resident registration address in Ulju-gun for the past two years and is registered as an agricultural or fishery management entity and actively engaged in management is eligible.
Applications can be submitted to the eup/myeon administrative welfare centers from the 11th of this month until May 2nd, and a prepaid card worth 360,000 KRW per household will be issued in May.
However, applicants must have no history of cancellation of management entity registration or relocation to another local government during the relevant period. Those with comprehensive income exceeding 37 million KRW outside of agriculture, local tax delinquents, fraudulent recipients of government subsidies, or those who have separated households while actually residing are excluded.
The county expects that by issuing local prepaid cards, funds will not flow out of the region but will circulate among local small business owners, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
County Governor Seonho Lee said, "We hope that the payment of the public interest allowance will enhance the public interest value of agriculture and fisheries and provide some help to farmers and fishermen who are struggling due to rising costs of related materials," adding, "The issuance of prepaid cards for the public interest allowance aims to revitalize the local economy through virtuous circulation among local small business owners."
