[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Kim Byeong-nae, mayor of Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, registered as a preliminary candidate on the 7th and officially launched his election campaign.
On the same day in the afternoon, candidate Kim personally visited the Nam-gu Election Commission and completed the registration process for the preliminary candidate for the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections for the mayor of Nam-gu, Gwangju.
Candidate Kim stated, "Having successfully completed the tasks I undertook as the 7th elected mayor of Nam-gu, I am challenging re-election to continuously promote the preparations and plans for the sustainable development of Nam-gu without interruption," and expressed his ambition by saying, "'Passion, promise,' and 'Kim Byeong-nae who works well' will open the future of Nam-gu."
Candidate Kim is simultaneously advancing four urban regeneration projects centered around Baegun Square in Baegun-dong, Yangnim-dong, Sajik-dong, and Bangnim-dong, on the site where the Baegun overpass, Nam-gu's largest long-cherished project, was demolished. He is also carrying out 10 complex projects (27 individual projects), the largest number in the Honam region, through the Living SOC complex project contest, creating growth momentum for Nam-gu's development and significantly improving residents' quality of life.
Additionally, for the first time in 26 years since the opening of Nam-gu Office, he established the Jinwol Complex Outdoor Stadium, constructed the Bandabi Gymnasium exclusively for the disabled, and smoothly developed the Daechon Energy Valley Industrial Complex, making Nam-gu a prosperous city both economically and culturally, which is considered a major achievement.
Candidate Kim, who has devoted himself to keeping promises made to residents throughout his term, proved this by being the only one in Gwangju to receive the highest (SA) grade for four consecutive years in the "National Basic Local Government Heads Pledge Fulfillment Evaluation and Information Disclosure Evaluation" conducted by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters.
Candidate Kim promised to achieve not only the happiness of Nam-gu residents but also the continuous growth of Nam-gu through ▲completion of the aerial walkway, media facade, media art wall, and street food zone in the Baegun Square area ▲smooth progress of the urban regeneration New Deal projects underway in Yangnim-dong, Sajik-dong, and Bangnim-dong ▲completion of the Living SOC complex project ▲successful development of the Daechon Energy Valley Industrial Complex project.
Born in Yeonggwang, Jeollanam-do, Mayor Kim graduated from Jodau High School and Gwangju University. He has served as president of the student council at Gwangju University, aide to National Assembly member Kang Woon-tae of Nam-gu, Gwangju, director of the Jikso Civil Complaints Office at Gwangju City Hall, deputy spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea Central Party, vice chairman of the Democratic Party Policy Committee, and administrative officer at the Office of Political Affairs in the Moon Jae-in administration's Blue House. He currently serves as a policy advisory member of the Presidential Committee on Autonomy and Decentralization and a policy advisory member of the Korea Sports Council.
