[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] In the June nationwide simultaneous local elections, Park Wansu, a member of the National Assembly, and Lee Jooyoung, former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, will face off for the People Power Party's candidate position for Governor of Gyeongnam Province.
The People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee accepted applications for metropolitan government head candidates from 9 a.m. on the 4th to 5 p.m. on the 6th.
A total of 62 people applied, including one confidential applicant, and among them, it was announced that Park Wansu, a member of the National Assembly, and Lee Jooyoung, former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, submitted their applications for the nomination screening in Gyeongnam.
With Kim Taeho, Yoon Youngseok, and Park Daechul declaring they would not run, a three-way contest was expected among Park Wansu, Lee Jooyoung, and Yoon Hanhong, members of the National Assembly; however, it was confirmed that Yoon did not apply for the nomination screening.
The Nomination Committee will begin document screening from the 7th and conduct candidate interviews starting the morning of the 8th, with plans to announce regional primary candidates from the 12th to the 14th.
On the 12th, primary candidates for Daejeon, Gwangju, Sejong, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, and Jeonnam will be announced; on the 13th, candidates for Busan, Incheon, Ulsan, Gyeonggi, and Gyeongnam; and on the 14th, candidates for Seoul, Daegu, Gangwon, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju will be announced.
For metropolitan and basic local government head primaries, the results will be determined by equally reflecting the votes of the electorate and public opinion polls, and candidate debates will be held during the primary period.
Unlike the metropolitan and basic government head primaries, metropolitan and basic council members will be decided by 100% party member electorate voting.
Preliminary candidates will conduct election campaigns for five days, and the results of the regional primaries will be announced between the 21st and 23rd.
