Wando Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation Significantly Increases Scholarships for Multi-Child Families

[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] The Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation, located in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 6th that it has significantly increased the scale of scholarships compared to the previous year to alleviate the educational expenses burden on multi-child families.

Last year, the multi-child family scholarship was provided to 106 recipients with a project budget of 50 million won, and as the number of applicants has continued to increase since its first implementation in 2019, this year’s project budget was drastically increased to 300 million won.

This year, as a result of receiving scholarship applications from March 7 to 18, a total of 547 applications were submitted, and excluding families who received scholarships in the past two years, scholarships totaling about 290 million won were awarded to 473 recipients.

The scholarship foundation’s board of directors improved the issues that arose while promoting the multi-child scholarship project, stipulating that as of the announcement date, the student and their guardian (father or mother) must have had a residence in Wando for more than two years, and the student must be an elementary, middle, high school, or university student. For university students, they must have graduated from or be currently enrolled in a high school within the jurisdiction. Only one child per multi-child family can apply.

Students from multi-child families with three or more children who meet these eligibility requirements were supported without a selection screening.

The Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation continues to promote scholarship projects that motivate students to study and reduce the educational expenses burden on parents amid rapid social changes such as population decline, polarization, and entrance examination systems.

Shin Woo-cheol, chairman of the Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation and Wando County Governor, said, “Although it is a difficult time for everyone due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we encourage students who have been devoted to their studies and will continue to provide support for multi-child families without hesitation.”

Meanwhile, since its establishment in 2007, the Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation has raised about 17.2 billion won in scholarship funds, including an initial endowment of 5.4 billion won, with the contributions of 16,337 people including Wando residents, expatriates, and philanthropists.

The scholarship has been awarded to a total of 3,556 recipients, including university freshmen and those with excellent academic performance, totaling 3.19889 billion won, making every effort to nurture local talent.
