[Asia Economy Reporter Sim Nayoung] Korea Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO) held its 60th anniversary ceremony on the 6th at the 3rd floor of Busan International Finance Center (BIFC) Kamco Maru, reaffirming its commitment to fully support small business owners and self-employed individuals struggling due to COVID-19. KAMCO President Kwon Nam-joo stated in his anniversary speech, “Since its launch as Seong-eop Corporation in 1962, KAMCO has played the role of a ‘special firefighter’ overcoming crises whenever the national economy faced difficulties,” adding, “Now is the time to once again demonstrate KAMCO’s capabilities.”

President Kwon emphasized, “Especially, KAMCO must take the lead in policy support to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, which is a national agenda,” and “We will focus all the experience and capabilities accumulated by KAMCO to help small business owners and the self-employed start anew and revive the livelihood economy.”

He also said, “To leap forward as a 100-year KAMCO, we will promote a systematic transition to digital transformation based on our business and ESG management to grow into a sustainable organization prepared for the new future,” and “Gaining trust from the public and recognition from the government is the core foundation of KAMCO’s 100-year enterprise, so all employees must set strict standards themselves and foster a clean organizational culture.”

Former KAMCO presidents Jeong Jae-ryong (18th), Lee Cheol-hwi (21st), Hong Young-man (23rd), and Moon Chang-yong (24th) attended the ceremony to offer congratulations, while political and financial figures including Yoon Jae-ok, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee, and Ko Seung-beom, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, as well as KAMCO customers, sent congratulatory messages via video.

Former President Jeong Jae-ryong said in his congratulatory speech, “KAMCO has know-how in supporting the successful recovery of households and companies through efficient resolution of non-performing loans,” and “We must actively support small business owners struggling due to COVID-19 by implementing debt restructuring and other measures to help them smoothly return as normal economic agents.”

At the ceremony, KAMCO donated 150 million KRW to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation to help close the cultural and artistic gap for vulnerable groups in the local community, sharing the joy of its 60th anniversary with neighbors in need.
