[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] Naju City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 6th that the Naju Education Promotion Foundation will provide a total of 156 million KRW in scholarships for the first half of the year to 107 students, including new high school and college freshmen, and winners of arts and physical education skill competitions.
The foundation held the 2022 Naju City Scholarship Selection Committee meeting on the 31st of last month and decided on scholarship payments after reviewing academic records and award achievements.
High school freshman scholarships will be awarded to 74 students based on middle school academic grades (grades 1 to 5), with amounts ranging from 600,000 KRW to a maximum of 3.4 million KRW, totaling 122 million KRW.
For college freshmen, scholarships totaling 33 million KRW will be awarded to 30 students after reviewing academic performance, low-income status, and multi-child families. Additionally, three middle and high school students who won awards in last year’s arts, physical education, and skill competitions will receive a total of 1.47 million KRW in scholarships.
Naju City and the Naju Education Promotion Foundation are promoting various educational projects such as university admission consulting, middle school career experience contests, and support for native English-speaking assistant teachers, alongside scholarship payments to strengthen regional educational competitiveness and nurture future talents.
This year, the foundation achieved the admission of 824 students from 11 local high schools to prestigious universities in the metropolitan area and provinces, including Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and Korea University.
In the second half of the year, scholarships will be awarded to new middle school students, current middle and high school students, and talented students in arts, physical education, and skills.
A foundation official stated, “We will strive to create an excellent educational environment so that talents who will lead Naju’s next 100 years can grow with dreams and visions as local contributors. We also plan to further expand the scholarship scale so that more students can benefit from scholarships.”
