[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) held a tree planting event with residents on the afternoon of the 5th at the Jangji Stream area along the Songpa Dullegil Trail to celebrate the 77th Arbor Day.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Since 2019, we have been creating street forests along the Songpa Dullegil Trail through resident donations,” adding, “This tree planting event was conducted as a ‘resident donation’ to cultivate the Songpa Dullegil Trail, which is loved by many visitors, to be greener and healthier together with the residents.”
The Songpa Dullegil Trail is a 21km circular trail connecting four waterways flowing along the outskirts of Songpa: Seongnae Stream, Jangji Stream, Tancheon Stream, and the Han River. On July 1st last year, the district completed the development of the Tancheon section, which had been blocked for 50 years, and is accelerating the ‘Season 2’ project to closely connect local resources and the Songpa Dullegil Trail throughout the area.
This tree planting was part of the ‘Songpa Dullegil Season 2’ project and took place along the walking path next to the Jangji Public Parking Lot (Jangji-dong 861-4) on the Jangji Stream course.
Prior to the event, the district accepted participant applications through the district office website from March 21 to April 1. On the day of the event, a total of 70 Korean dogwood trees were planted, including 50 trees donated by residents.
In particular, the district plans to hang nameplates on each tree bearing the donor’s name and hopeful messages. Residents expressed their love and hope for family, neighbors, and society with messages such as “My beloved two sons! I hope you become wonderful people who always strive for a happy life,” “I believe in the power of positivity,” “May happy dreams come true for everyone walking this path,” and “My life is beautiful, and even if I sometimes fall, it’s wonderful!”
About 100 people, including resident donors, Mayor Park Seong-su, and local residents, participated in the donation ceremony.
Going forward, the district plans to continuously promote resident donations along the four courses of the Songpa Dullegil Trail so that residents can have memories and affection for the trail.
Mayor Park Seong-su said, “Amid the exhaustion caused by COVID-19, I hope this resident donation becomes an opportunity to share hope,” adding, “We will focus on the Songpa Dullegil Season 2 project and strive to make the well-maintained Songpa Dullegil Trail a place of solace for many residents and visitors.”
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) held a tree planting event on the morning of the 5th along the Anyangcheon Stream area to celebrate the 77th Arbor Day.
The event was organized to raise awareness of the importance of planting and nurturing trees and to create sustainable forest resources.
On the day, Mayor Kim Soo-young planted a variety of trees including trumpet creeper, crape myrtle, and Korean stewartia together with volunteers from the ‘Friends of the Park’ group.
Mayor Kim Soo-young said, “I hope everyone takes a moment today to think once again about the love for forests and the importance of tree planting.”
On the morning of the 5th, Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il planted trees at Yeouido Sister Neighborhood Park to mark Arbor Day.
On this day, Mayor Chae, along with staff from related departments, planted trees such as Chinese fringe trees and azaleas in the park to commemorate the 77th Arbor Day. Nearby daycare children also participated by planting flowers and trees, contributing to creating a greener environment.
Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, “We will put more effort into expanding green spaces in the city to lead eco-friendly policies and create a more pleasant and open green Yeongdeungpo.”
