[Special Stock] 'Pulp Prices Up 20% in Three Months'... Sharp Rise in Shinpoong Jeji and Other Paper Stocks

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] As pulp prices hit a low point at the end of last year and surged about 20% this year, the stock prices of paper companies such as Sinpung Paper have also risen significantly.

As of 10 a.m. on the 5th, Sinpung Paper is trading at 2,325 won, up 13.41% from the previous trading day. Murim Paper is up 8.36%, and Daeyoung Packaging is also showing an upward trend with a 5.45% increase.

The rise in paper companies' stock prices was largely influenced by the pulp prices revealed the previous day. According to the monthly raw material price information released by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the price of Southern Bleached Hardwood Kraft pulp (SBHK) from the southern United States recorded $785 per ton last month. This is a 19.84% increase compared to December last year ($655). As a result, it is interpreted that the stock prices are rising due to expectations of price increases for paper companies.
