People Power Party Candidates for Local Elections Must Take 'Basic Qualification Evaluation'... Relative Evaluation to Absolute Evaluation

Proportional Representatives, Regional Assembly Members Must Score 70 Points and Basic Assembly Members 60 Points to Qualify for Nomination

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee has confirmed that candidates running in the June 1 local elections will be required to take the 'Basic Qualification Assessment (PPAT·People Power Aptitude Test)'.

On the 3rd, Kim Haeng, spokesperson for the Central Party's Nomination Management Committee, held a press conference at the National Assembly to announce this decision. The PPAT evaluation method will be changed from a 'relative evaluation' to an 'absolute evaluation'.

Spokesperson Kim said, "Relative evaluation could result in a low qualification standard, which does not align with the original purpose of assessing candidate qualifications, so we changed it to absolute evaluation."

He added, "This means assessing the qualifications of candidates running for public office. Since the exam is quite burdensome for candidates, there was some controversy in the relevant constituencies and the Supreme Council. Nevertheless, to clearly establish a certain standard of qualification screening, we decided on absolute evaluation."

Accordingly, People Power Party candidates for proportional representation in metropolitan and basic councilor positions must take the test.

The Nomination Management Committee requires metropolitan council proportional representation candidates to score at least 70 points, and basic council proportional representation candidates to score at least 60 points to receive nomination. If the score falls short, nomination will not be possible.
