Magnitude 2.0 Earthquake in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk... "Nearby Areas Likely Felt Tremors" (Comprehensive)

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.0 occurred at 2:19 PM on the 3rd, 22 km south-southeast of Namnam-dong, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk Province. The depth of the epicenter was 11 km.

The KMA stated, "Seismic shaking could have been felt near the earthquake's epicenter," and urged people to "pay attention to safety."

The instrumental intensity calculated based on seismometer observations was 3 in Gyeongbuk, 2 in Ulsan, and 1 in other regions.

An instrumental intensity of 3 means "people indoors, especially on upper floors of buildings, feel noticeable shaking, and stationary vehicles shake slightly," while an instrumental intensity of 2 means "a few people in quiet conditions or on upper floors of buildings feel the shaking."

However, as of 3 PM, only one report of feeling the earthquake was received, and it was from Ulsan.

This earthquake is the 17th earthquake with a magnitude of 2.0 or higher to occur on the Korean Peninsula this year. The KMA analyzed that it is not an aftershock of the Gyeongju earthquake (magnitude 5.8) that occurred on September 12, 2016.
