[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol will announce the appointment of the new Prime Minister at 3:30 PM on the 3rd. Former Prime Minister Han Deok-su is expected to be nominated as the first Prime Minister candidate of the new administration.
The spokesperson office of the president-elect announced that Yoon will make this announcement at a press conference held at the transition office in Tongui-dong, Seoul. Former Prime Minister Han is also expected to attend the press conference.
Han, originally from Jeonju, Jeonbuk, graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in economics and passed the civil service exam, following a career as a traditional bureaucrat. During the Kim Dae-jung administration, he served as Director-General of Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and as Presidential Economic Secretary. Under the Roh Moo-hyun administration, he served as Minister for Government Policy Coordination, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy, and Prime Minister. During the Lee Myung-bak administration, he served as Ambassador to the United States.
President-elect Yoon is reported to have selected former Prime Minister Han considering various factors such as expertise in economics and U.S. relations, national unity, and experience.
