Gwangjin-gu 'Spring Flower Welcoming Busking' Resumes

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seongap) held a special performance called the ‘Spring Flower Welcoming Busking’ in line with the spring flower blooming season.

This performance, the first busking event resumed since the suspension due to COVID-19, was organized to shift the depressed atmosphere caused by the pandemic and to provide vitality and hope to artists and residents’ daily lives.

The busking performance held on April 1 was titled ‘Spring Has Come to Cheongchun Tteureok, a Spring Healing Performance with the MZ Generation’ and took place at the outdoor performance stage of Cheongchun Tteureok near Konkuk University Station.

This event featured artists popular among the MZ generation. The opening act was the hip-hop club ‘Soul Train’ from Sejong University. Following them were ‘Sejajeongeo,’ a three-member busking band led by vocalist Oh Chiyoung, known as Ssukdaemeori from ‘JTBC Fandom Singer,’ and ‘Band Faker,’ a four-member busking band that won the grand prize at the National Creative Song Festival, who filled the stage with their performances.

On April 2, a special performance titled ‘A Spring Flower Walk with Music at Achasan’ was held at Achasan Eoullim Square.

This performance was prepared for residents who came to Achasan for a spring flower walk and was also the first performance to open the Achasan Open Life Stage this year. Starting with an opening performance by ‘Rim,’ a female band composed of jazz musicians, the three-member mixed-gender busking band ‘Yellow Week’ performed original songs and popular music, providing a joyful time for the residents.

Gwangjin-gu plans to continue street cultural performances until October, excluding the hot summer months of July and August, starting with this special performance. In addition to the spring and autumn special performances, performances by local artists and young artists will be regularly held at Neungdong-ro Youth Culture and Arts Street and Achasan Eoullim Square.

Kim Seongap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We aim to revitalize the Youth Culture and Arts Street through diverse street performances linked with local universities and create a cultural landscape in daily life to realize a top cultural city. I hope residents exhausted by COVID-19 can fully enjoy the atmosphere of spring.”
