Meeting on the Establishment of Geoje Jihae's Sea Library

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 1st, the Gyeongnam Office of Education and Geoje City held a parents' meeting to establish the Geoje Jihyeuibada Library.
The meeting was attended by Park Jonghun, Superintendent of Gyeongnam Office of Education, Byeon Gwangyong, Mayor of Geoje City, and about 120 local parents.
Officials explained the progress and future schedule of the Geoje Jihyeuibada Library project, followed by discussions and Q&A sessions.
The Gyeongnam Office of Education established the Masan Jihyeuibada Library and Gimhae Jihyeuibada Library by utilizing closed schools in old downtown areas, and in September last year, signed an agreement with Geoje City for resolving local issues and mutual cooperation, thereby promoting the establishment of the Geoje Jihyeuibada Library.
They plan to relocate the Geoje City gymnasium, which has aged and has low utilization, and renovate it together with the nearby Geoje City Table Tennis Hall to create a complex reading and cultural space for the region.
The attending parents offered opinions on the library functions, various experiential activity spaces, resident-participatory design, and the creation of an outdoor playground.
Superintendent Park Jonghun said, “Through this meeting, we have properly understood the local residents' interest in the Geoje Jihyeuibada Library,” and added, “We will strive to create a large-scale complex reading and cultural space that truly satisfies the hearts of the local residents.”
Mayor Byeon Gwangyong stated, “We will closely cooperate with the Gyeongnam Office of Education to establish a foundation for the Geoje area to become a symbolic space where learning and growth coexist.”
