[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol stated, "The current international crisis, as well as domestic political, economic, and social crises, are no different from wartime," adding, "Overcoming these crises is impossible without unified solidarity and national integration."
On the 1st, President-elect Yoon attended a meeting of the National Integration Committee held at the Presidential Transition Committee office in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and said, "Although political views and economic interests may differ, I believe you can reach a conclusion on whether we can overcome the crisis by sharing a common direction and goal together."
He especially emphasized integration, saying, "During war, if the people do not unite, it is impossible to carry out the war." President-elect Yoon highlighted, "During World War II, the Conservative Party and the Labour Party in the UK united to appoint Churchill as Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and the labor sector made significant concessions to cooperate with the national wartime industry," adding, "It is the same for our country."
He also stressed the role of the National Integration Committee. He expressed expectations that the National Integration Committee will provide meaningful and good conclusions on individual issues, rather than just a logic of integration to resolve conflicts, which will serve as the most important foundation for the new government’s administration.
Earlier, when asked by reporters about the nomination of the new government’s first Prime Minister on his way to work, President-elect Yoon said, "I have not met any of the candidates (who have been mentioned) yet." Regarding some speculations that the Prime Minister candidate would be announced around the 3rd, he responded, "Well, let's see about that."
It is known that President-elect Yoon is considering former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and former Financial Services Commission Chairman Lim Jong-ryong as candidates for Prime Minister. Regarding his plan to attend the Jeju 4.3 Victims Memorial Ceremony, President-elect Yoon said, "I visited the Jeju 4.3 Peace Park last time, and when asked if I would come after the election, I said, 'Of course, I will come.'"
