[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As the transition committee and the Blue House clashed again over the appointment of the president of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, the Blue House launched an offensive demanding an apology from the transition committee. In response, the opposition criticized, saying, "They should consider the public's sentiment."
Park Soo-hyun, the Blue House Chief of Communication, said on June 1 on TBS's "Kim Eo-jun's News Factory" that the transition committee "premised and suspected as if we were involved in it, using extreme language like shamelessness, which was actually an insulting briefing."
Earlier, Won Il-hee, the chief deputy spokesperson of the transition committee, pointed out in a briefing the day before, "Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering forced an unreasonable move by electing CEO Park Du-seon, known as a college classmate of President Moon Jae-in's younger brother," calling it "an irrational and shameless act."
In response, the Blue House countered, saying, "It is surprising that the transition committee was coveting the president position at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering." Park's remarks are also in line with this Blue House stance.
Park said, "The Moon Jae-in administration never interfered in personnel matters of such private companies," adding, "If the Blue House says this is not true, I think the transition committee should apologize politely."
The opposition criticized the Blue House. Kim Ki-hyun, the floor leader of the People Power Party, said, "It is hard to see the series of events as a coincidence: that the college classmate of President Moon Jae-in's younger brother, that the Korea Development Bank, which has a pro-government chairman, exerted influence, and that he was appointed as president," adding, "No matter how reckless the stance is, shouldn't they at least consider the public's sentiment?"
He added, "What is more shocking is the Blue House's attitude," saying, "They promised active cooperation for the new government's launch in meetings with the president-elect, but behind the scenes, the Blue House publicly insults the transition committee, which I strongly regret."
