Yoo Seung-min and Kim Dong-yeon Clash Over 'Gyeonggi Province Governor'... "No Ties" vs "Responsibility for Sojusung Failure"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Kim Dong-yeon, leader of the Saerounmulgyeol Party, and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, both candidates in the Gyeonggi Province governor election, exchanged sharp criticisms and engaged in a tense battle of nerves.

On the 1st, Kim appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and said, "Former lawmaker Yoo is a distinguished person, an economic expert," but added, "He is not someone who directly managed or was responsible for the economy like me, but rather someone who gave advice and criticism from the sidelines, a Ph.D. graduate from the Korea Development Institute (KDI)."

He also criticized Yoo, saying, "As far as I know, he has no ties whatsoever to Gyeonggi Province," and "He probably has never paid a single won in taxes in Gyeonggi Province."

Regarding Yoo's statement the previous day that "many people without ties live in Gyeonggi Province," Kim said, "That is a statement that hurts the pride of Gyeonggi residents," adding, "Gyeonggi Province is a region with a strong sense of unity and pride. Those who were born, raised, or run businesses in Gyeonggi all have ties to the province."

In response, Yoo appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' the same day and pointed out about Kim, "Who is most responsible for the Moon Jae-in administration's real estate and job issues, and the failure of income-led growth? That is former Deputy Prime Minister for Economy Kim Dong-yeon."

He continued, "He claims to have criticized the Moon Jae-in government during the presidential election, but now that he has rejoined the Democratic Party, he no longer talks about those issues," and said, "All Democratic Party candidates say they will protect Senior Advisor Lee Jae-myung, so how can those running for Gyeonggi Province governor make 'protecting Lee Jae-myung' their goal?"

Regarding Kim's criticism that Yoo has "no ties to Gyeonggi Province," Yoo countered, "When Korean soccer reached the semifinals, it was not because Coach Hiddink had Korean nationality or ties that he led Korean soccer to the semifinals."

He also defended his economic expertise, saying, "I entered the economics department at 19 and have spent my life contemplating economics and proposing policy solutions, so I was not just someone who criticized and gave advice from the sidelines."
