[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] KT Cloud, which is being spun off from the KT Group, is aiming to achieve "KRW 2 trillion in sales by 2026." Yoon Dong-sik Vice President Appointed as First CEO
KT Cloud, KT Group's cloud and Internet Data Center (IDC) specialized company, officially launched on the 1st. KT separated its cloud and IDC business through an in-kind contribution method, comprehensively transferring assets in the cloud and IDC business sectors, including major IDCs in Gangnam and Yeouido, to KT Cloud. KT will hold 100% of KT Cloud's shares. KT explained that it chose to establish a separate corporation for the cloud and IDC business to strengthen its leadership in the digital infrastructure market.
Yoon Dong-sik, appointed as the first CEO of KT Cloud, has been an original member since KT started its cloud business. He laid the foundation for KT's cloud business. Yoon has led the digital infrastructure business within the KT Group by serving as head of KT Cloud Promotion, KTDS Business Infrastructure General Manager, and KT IT Division Head.
CEO Yoon Dong-sik said, "As an independent corporation, the newly born KT Cloud will establish a flexible organizational structure to respond swiftly to the rapidly changing market environment and will actively pursue investments, partnerships, and collaborations for business growth." He added, "KT Cloud, as the only domestic business provider integrating network, IDC, and cloud services, will contribute to enhancing KT Group's corporate value."
"KRW 2 Trillion in Sales by 2026"
KT Cloud aims to become the top domestic DX (Digital Transformation) specialist company with KRW 2 trillion in sales by 2026. It will focus on an KRW 800 billion public cloud transition project to strengthen customized services and establish a dedicated business system for the public sector to solidify its position as a leading DX operator in Korea.
To secure world-class artificial intelligence (AI) cloud competitiveness, KT Cloud will focus on "AI Cloud." Leading with the world's first "Hyperscale AI Computing (HAC)" service launched at the end of last year, it will invest heavily in AI infrastructure and expand its business into AI platforms and service areas. Going forward, KT Cloud plans to become an "AI full-stack" provider by simultaneously offering hardware and software through the development of a large-scale "GPU farm" and dedicated AI semiconductor chips.
To meet the rapidly increasing demand for data centers, KT Cloud will collaborate with asset management companies and others to supply large-scale IDCs by 2024. It will expand overseas connected services through partnerships with global operators and enter the global IDC market by providing IDC construction consulting in countries such as Uzbekistan. KT Cloud will implement ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) policies as an IDC operator by realizing eco-friendly, carbon-reducing IDCs through energy-saving technologies and the introduction of renewable energy.
