[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Russia has banned entry to high-ranking officials of the European Union (EU) and its member states who participated in anti-Russian policies.
On the 31st (local time), the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement, "The EU's sanctions policy against Russia has gone too far."
In response to the EU's large-scale sanctions, the Russian government has significantly expanded the list of those banned from entering Russia. However, the statement did not specify the names of the newly sanctioned individuals.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these sanctions apply to senior EU leadership, including a series of EU commissioners promoting anti-Russian policies, heads of military organizations, and members of the European Parliament. Some government and parliamentary officials, social activists, and journalists from certain EU member states responsible for the sanctions against Russia are also included.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) stated, "Russia is showing signs of announcing countermeasures against Western sanctions that have paralyzed its economy, caused the ruble to plummet, triggered massive capital flight, and led to Western companies withdrawing from Russia."
