[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it held the opening ceremony of the local hub-type cultural space ‘Jeongdam’ at 5 p.m. on the 31st.


‘Jeongdam (Junggye-ro 169)’ is located within the Art Yard next to Nowon Culture and Arts Center. It is a 66㎡ space on the first floor above ground and is equipped with ▲performance and exhibition spaces ▲community space ▲cafe, etc.


Going forward, plans include promoting and revitalizing visual arts activities through the ‘Visual Arts Support Project,’ supporting creative and practice spaces for local youth through the ‘Youth Arts Project,’ ‘Curated Exhibitions’ centered on local artists, ‘Small-scale Performances’ to provide opportunities to enjoy culture and arts in daily life, and ‘Community Projects’ such as facility rentals.


The opening ceremony was attended by District Mayor Oh Seung-rok, local artists, and residents, and proceeded in the order of progress report, congratulatory speeches, ribbon-cutting, facility tour, and plaque unveiling.


District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “With the Nowon Culture and Arts Center, Jeongdam, and the under-construction ‘Junggye Culture and Health Center,’ this place will become a hub for local culture and arts,” adding, “We will continue to strive so that local artists can freely showcase their talents and residents can experience culture in their daily lives.”

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) held the ‘2022 Dongdaemun-gu Tree Planting’ event on the afternoon of the 31st at the Jungnangcheon riverside, together with residents, ahead of the 77th Arbor Day.


This event was organized to contribute to reducing fine dust and creating a beautiful river landscape by planting trees along the Jungnangcheon riverside in celebration of Arbor Day.


The tree planting event was attended by Yoo Deok-yeol, Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor, contract workers, public officials including non-regular employees, Dongdaemun-gu office staff, and local residents. They planted 525 trees of four species?white magnolia, crape myrtle, cornelian cherry, and rose?along a 1 km section from Jungnang Bridge to Ihwa Bridge.


District Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol said, “As demand for green infrastructure increases due to COVID-19, today’s tree planting event was an opportunity to once again appreciate the importance of trees and green spaces,” adding, “We will continue to steadily expand green spaces in the city to create a more pleasant urban environment.”

Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) awarded commendations to outstanding donors and volunteers of the ‘2022 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Project’ on the 30th to express gratitude.


The 2022 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Project is a fundraising campaign to help neighbors in need, and the district achieved a total fundraising amount of 1.769 billion KRW this year.


At the commendation ceremony, certificates of commendation and appreciation, as well as plaques from the Seoul Community Chest of Korea, were awarded to a total of 84 recipients including corporations, religious organizations, professional groups, and individual donors.


Additionally, six outstanding volunteers and volunteer groups who have continuously engaged in volunteer activities under the theme of ‘Sharing and Volunteering’ were also awarded certificates of commendation.


District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said, “Even in these difficult times due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, I thank the residents who generously shared their warm hearts for their neighbors,” adding, “We will make sure to deliver your heartfelt contributions to those in need and strive to realize welfare without blind spots.”

Through this agreement, a total of 206 parking spaces will be newly created on vacant land near St. Mary’s Hospital in Yeouido, contributing to alleviating parking difficulties and improving the parking environment in the area.


District Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, “This project to create parking spaces using leftover land aims to resolve severe parking shortages and create a pleasant residential environment,” adding, “We will do our best to actively discover and operate projects that significantly improve the quality of life for residents.”
