Namuga Collaborates with Sigbot to Produce 3D Sensing ToF Modules for Robots... Early Market Domination

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Namuga, a camera module specialist company, announced on March 28 that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sigbot, a 3D sensing module development company, to produce 3D sensing ToF modules for robots.

The robot market is rapidly growing due to advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology and increased demand for contactless solutions. The '3D sensing camera module' is a precision sensor that determines the distance to objects and serves as the eyes of robots, making it a core component. It is a high value-added technology requiring sophisticated software algorithms and hardware packaging techniques.

Namuga, a camera module specialist, is expected to become a leading player in the growing market for 3D sensing camera modules for robots through business cooperation with Sigbot.

Sigbot has been recognized for its technological capabilities, winning awards such as the Innovation Award at the 2021 World IT Show (WIT) and Korea Electronics Show (KES), as well as the CES Innovation Award in 2022. It possesses 3D sensing technology capable of simultaneous 2D and 3D measurement, and its ultra-compact sensing solutions are suitable for various types of robots, including indoor small robots and unmanned mobile robots.

Compared to existing products, Sigbot’s components can be implemented at a lower cost, securing not only performance but also price competitiveness. It is expected that Sigbot’s technological know-how combined with Namuga’s 3D camera module design and manufacturing technology will create synergy.

Namuga, as a camera module specialist, has a track record of supplying various 3D sensing modules to global IT companies such as Samsung Electronics’ flagship smartphones, Intel RealSense, and Sony Aibo2 robot dogs. Currently, it is mass-producing the 3D cameras installed in Samsung Electronics’ next-generation robot vacuum cleaner, the ‘Bespoke Jetbot AI’.

Kang Young-gyu, Executive Director of Namuga’s Advanced Development Team, said, "Through this cooperation, we expect to secure a competitive edge in the robot 3D sensing module market, which has great growth potential, based on the technological capabilities and know-how of both companies."

He added, "The robot 3D sensing module market is still in its early stages. Namuga will strengthen its position as a leading company by aggressively developing and promoting to increase market share."
