[Featured Stock] Hurim Robot Rises on Adoption of 'Robot Fire Dog' by New York Fire Department

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Hurim Robot is showing strength following news that the New York Fire Department has deployed ‘robot fire dogs.’ Hurim Robot is working with Paratech, a comprehensive fire safety equipment company, to develop a new concept fire response solution.

As of 9:36 AM on the 28th, Hurim Robot is trading at 1,895 KRW, up 20.7% compared to the previous day.

Earlier, on the 17th (local time), according to The New York Times (NYT), the New York Fire Department (FDNY) purchased two ‘Spot robots’ from Boston Dynamics, a robot development company under Hyundai Motor Group. Spot is a quadruped robot with four flexible legs that can climb stairs and overcome obstacles. The FDNY plans to equip these robots with sensors and deploy them for search and rescue operations.

Hurim Robot is developing next-generation fire-fighting robot solutions based on its expertise in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robot technology. The company plans to expand the operational scope of its robots from counter-terrorism and defense industries to high-risk environments such as fires.

Meanwhile, the National Fire Agency announced in February a vision to elevate domestic fire prevention and response systems to Western European levels within the next three years, aiming to position Korea’s fire administration system and fire safety at the top global tier.

According to the ‘Core Promotion Tasks for the Firefighting Development 4.0 Era,’ the National Fire Agency will introduce 4th industrial technologies such as large drones and firefighting robots into fire suppression and rescue operations. For areas where it is difficult to simulate real situations, such as fires in super high-rise buildings or tunnels, virtual reality programs like the metaverse will be actively utilized.
