[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Oh Young-hoon, a member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea, announced his candidacy for Governor of Jeju Province on the 27th. Oh promised to attract 20 listed companies and create a 15-minute city in Jeju.

At a press conference held at the Jeju Chamber of Commerce and Industry International Conference Hall, Oh officially declared his candidacy for the June 1 local elections, saying, "I promise to open a new 'Era of Provincial Government by the Residents' by faithfully carrying out the solemn order of the residents to work solely for the people of Jeju."

He specifically pledged to attract listed companies and redesign living zones.

Oh said, "We will focus on attracting and nurturing 20 listed companies on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ, and establishing core industrial bases such as the hydrogen economy, system semiconductors, and herbal medicine-based bio-health industries to make Jeju a future industry-rich region." He added, "We will redesign the living zones in urban and rural areas to create a ‘15-minute city Jeju’ where residents can access medical care, education, culture, shopping, and walking within 15 minutes centered around their residences."

Additionally, after officially announcing the introduction of a ‘Jeju-type basic local government,’ he revealed a roadmap, stating, "In the local elections four years from now, we will promote direct election by the residents themselves."
