Meeting Held 19 Days After Presidential Election
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party of Korea responded on the 27th to the agreement between President Moon Jae-in and President-elect Yoon Seok-youl to hold a dinner meeting, saying it was "late but fortunate."
Shin Hyun-young, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a written briefing that "President Moon and President-elect Yoon have agreed to meet tomorrow," adding, "It is late, but fortunate." She continued, "We hope that tomorrow's meeting will be an opportunity to unite the hearts of the people."
Spokesperson Shin said, "We hope the first step of a smooth transition will be taken so that there is no gap in state affairs and national security, and that it will alleviate the public's anxiety," adding, "Since it is late, we, along with the people, expect a broad and deep dialogue to take place."
The meeting between President Moon and President-elect Yoon comes 19 days after the presidential election. This is the latest meeting ever held between an incumbent president and a president-elect. The previous record was the 18-day interval between then-President Roh Tae-woo and then-President-elect Kim Young-sam (YS) in 1992, which was the latest meeting before this.
