At a regular briefing on the same day, Deputy Spokesperson Cha Deok-cheol of the Ministry of Unification responded to a question about how they plan to respond to North Korea's cancellation of the moratorium on nuclear tests and ICBM launches by stating, "This North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile launch is an act that poses a serious threat to the Korean Peninsula, the region, and the international community."

He added, "We strongly condemn North Korea for clearly violating the United Nations Security Council resolutions and unilaterally breaking the moratorium on intercontinental ballistic missile launches that it had promised to the international community."

Deputy Spokesperson Cha said, "The government will take necessary countermeasures in cooperation with related countries and the international community based on close cooperation between South Korea and the United States," and urged, "Regardless of North Korea's intentions, North Korea must immediately cease actions that create tension on the Korean Peninsula and cause instability in the regional situation."

He continued, "We solemnly urge North Korea to come to the table for dialogue and negotiation and promptly return to the path of diplomatic resolution."
