[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 24th, in the first round of voting held to elect the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, four candidates?Park Kwang-on, Park Hong-geun, Lee Won-wook, and Choi Kang-wook (in alphabetical order)?each received more than 10% of the votes, thus qualifying for the second round of voting.
The first round of voting was conducted without any separate nominations. If no candidate receives two-thirds of the total membership votes, a second round is held among those who received more than 10% of the votes. Since no candidate won by a landslide in the first round, the race narrowed down to a "four-way contest." The exact vote percentages of the candidates in the first round were not disclosed.
The members who passed the first round are currently delivering seven-minute policy speeches each before proceeding to the second round of voting.
In the subsequent second round, the candidate who receives the majority of votes will be elected as the floor leader.
If no candidate obtains a majority, a runoff vote will be held between the top two candidates from the second round to determine the final winner.
