[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] Publishing company Changbi announced on the 23rd that it opened an author inquiry website on the 21st of last month, where authors (painters, translators) can directly check the production, sales, and royalty payment status of their books.
This is the first website in the publishing industry where authors can check the print run by edition, monthly actual shipment volume, and all royalty payment details for their own books. Currently in beta version, authors who have published new books since 2020 can use this service, which is available in both PC and mobile versions. The target authors and the scope of inquiry will be further expanded in the future.
Changbi's author inquiry site is the only system in Korea that allows convenient online access at any time not only to simple sales information but also to the publication and shipment history of all editions of a single book. This reflects recent publishing trends where the same work is produced in various editions and changes in the publishing environment enabled by the activation of digital printing, allowing small print runs.
Until now, Changbi has provided publication details in written form to transparently disclose the publication information of authors' books. Authors who have used the newly developed program in its beta version have evaluated that accessibility and transparency of information have been significantly upgraded.
A Changbi official stated, “Going forward, Changbi will continue to transparently share all information with authors to build mutual trust, create an environment where authors can focus on creative activities, and contribute to improving the opaque information disclosure practices in the publishing industry.”
