Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Accelerates Opening of National Museum of Urban Architecture... Signs Agreement with 8 Organizations Status of Sejong City Museum Complex / Provided by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.


[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 22nd that, ahead of the full-scale promotion of the National Urban Architecture Museum scheduled to open in 2025, it has signed a business agreement with related organizations such as academic societies and associations to actively collect urban and architectural materials and cooperate on exhibitions.


The agreement involved eight organizations, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Architecture and Space Research Institute, the Korea Institute of Registered Architects, the Architectural Institute of Korea, the Korean Society of Land and Urban Planning, the New Architects Association, the Korean Institute of Architects, and the Korean Urban Design Society (in alphabetical order).


The signatory organizations agreed to cooperate in securing materials such as donations, loans, and replica production of urban and architectural data for the successful opening and operation of the National Urban Architecture Museum. They also agreed to collaborate on museum operations including sponsorship, personnel exchanges, and facility support, as well as to support content such as exhibition consultation and linked programs, and to discover promotional activities such as support for exhibition facilities of the partner organizations and special exhibitions.


The National Urban Architecture Museum is being planned as a key facility for the preservation, exhibition, education, and research of Korea's urban and architectural heritage. It will be developed as a "living museum" that builds and produces its own content along with collecting exhibition items. The total project cost is 94.9 billion KRW, and the building will be constructed with two basement floors and three above-ground floors. The design phase has been underway since 2020 through this year, with construction scheduled for 2023?2024, and the museum is expected to open in 2025.


Um Jeong-hee, Director of Architectural Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "The architectural and exhibition design for the construction of the National Urban Architecture Museum is progressing smoothly, and we will do our best for the successful establishment of the museum." She added, "We will actively cooperate in various ways with participating organizations to ensure the successful opening of the National Urban Architecture Museum and strive to help it grow into a world-class urban architecture museum."
