Choi Dong-min, Former Blue House Administrator, Announces Candidacy for Dongdaemun District Mayor

With the slogan "A Competent District Mayor Properly Prepared," Announces the Aspiration for a "New Dongdaemun Era"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Choi Dong-min, former Blue House administrator under the Moon Jae-in administration, officially declared his candidacy for Dongdaemun District Mayor.

On the 21st at 2 p.m., Choi held a press conference at Cheongnyangni Station Plaza to announce the ‘New Dongdaemun Era Cheongnyangni Declaration,’ revealing his vision for the development of Dongdaemun District. He stated, “I am running for Dongdaemun District Mayor to open an era of a vibrant Dongdaemun where everyone lives well together, and an era of autonomy and decentralization achieved through citizen participation.”

At the press conference, Choi emphasized the need for a ‘well-prepared mayor’ and a ‘competent mayor,’ saying, “I will apply my experience planning and drafting urban policies at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, my firsthand experience with local government systems in Seoul, and my policy decision-making skills from the party and the Blue House to Dongdaemun District administration, advancing the district’s autonomy to the next level.”

As part of his vision for the New Dongdaemun Era, he outlined eight development plans for Dongdaemun District: ▲Declaration of the Cheongnyangni Era as a smart premium city harmonizing housing, jobs, culture, arts, and commercial districts ▲Completion of the cutting-edge knowledge city Hongneung Bio City and the international Korean medicine city ▲Warm local economic development down to the alleys ▲Leading carbon neutrality in response to climate change ▲Building a happy educational city for children ▲Providing a rich life for residents through ‘10-minute culture and sports stations’ ▲Creating a youth special zone filled with youth spirit and culture ▲Creating a premium residential city through redevelopment, urban regeneration, and living infrastructure.

Choi expressed, “I will make Dongdaemun a leading city unlike any other in the world,” and declared, “Truly! I will open the New Dongdaemun Era.” He showed strong determination by saying, “A dream dreamed alone is just a dream, but a dream dreamed together becomes reality.”

Hundreds of figures from various sectors of Dongdaemun District participated in the candidacy declaration event, supporting Choi’s announcement.

Born in Buan, Jeonbuk (1969), former administrator Choi Dong-min served as a Blue House administrator under the Moon Jae-in government, political advisor to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and aide to the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, earning a reputation as a skilled figure with comprehensive administrative and political capabilities. Recently, he actively served as a deputy spokesperson for Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung. Based on this, he is regarded as a leading candidate for Dongdaemun District Mayor in the June 1 local elections.
