Contributing to National Health Promotion and Improving Quality of Life for Cancer Patients
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Seok-mo, director of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Cancer Center (professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital), received a government award for his contributions to revitalizing cancer prevention and management projects.
According to Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital on the 21st, Director Kim received the Prime Minister's Award at the '15th Cancer Prevention Day Ceremony' held at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul that afternoon.
He was recognized for his contributions to promoting public health and improving the quality of life of cancer patients through the National Cancer Control Project.
Since February 2020, Director Kim has served as the inaugural director of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Cancer Center, strengthening cooperative systems with related organizations such as the Cancer Management Project Council, Gwangju City, Jeonnam Province, and public health centers in various ways as a central institution for community cancer management projects, conducting not only treatment but also cancer prevention and management projects.
In particular, he monitors the current status of cancer incidence in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, providing evidence-based data on region-specific cancers, supporting the promotion of cancer prevention and management projects tailored to regional characteristics.
Additionally, as a gynecologic oncology specialist, he has treated cancer patients for nearly 30 years and has led clinical research on tumors that have yet to be explored. Since 2004, he has published a total of 110 papers, including SCI-indexed articles, contributing to the advancement of clinical research in cancer treatment.
