Park Kwang-on Announces Candidacy for Won District... Fourth After Park Hong-geun, Lee Won-wook, and Ahn Kyu-baek
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 21st, Park Kwang-on, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, declared his candidacy for the party floor leader election. Accordingly, the Democratic Party has finalized a four-way race among the leading floor leader candidates: Park Hong-geun, Lee Won-wook, Ahn Kyu-baek, and Park Kwang-on.
On the same day, Park posted on his Facebook, "I believe this floor leader election is a process to further strengthen the unity of the party." He added, "As floor leader, I will gather the precious and earnest intentions of each member of the National Assembly to build the capability to surely win the local elections in two months, the general elections in two years, and the presidential election in five years."
Park emphasized politics of communication and the principle of balance. He said, "The measure of respect is communication," and promised, "I will ensure that the opinions of the members of the National Assembly, who are representatives of the people, are definitely reflected in the party's important policy decision-making processes." To this end, Park pledged to remove barriers in the Policy Coordination Committee and activate small-scale caucuses at various levels so that members can easily express their opinions even if they are not affiliated with a specific standing committee.
He also raised his voice against "factional politics." He stated, "Monopoly and exclusion are poisons that erode our strength," and declared, "I will cherish this principle from the assignment of standing committees to the formation of the floor leader group."
