Andong-si Selected as Best Institution for 2022 World Water Day Commemoration

Recognized as a Leading City for Clean Water Supply through Water Quality Improvement Policies

Andong City was selected as the Best Institution in commemoration of World Water Day 2022.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwi-yeol] Andong City was selected as the 'Best Institution' in the 2022 World Water Day commemorative Gyeongbuk Province institutional evaluation and received a commendation at the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office on the 21st.

This evaluation was conducted to commemorate World Water Day, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1992, targeting 23 cities and counties within Gyeongbuk Province that contributed to water quality improvement and water management policies. A comprehensive evaluation was carried out on 10 items across 4 areas including water management, water supply and sewage, and water industry promotion.

Andong City led the improvement of Nakdong River water quality through the construction of artificial wetland non-point source reduction facilities and ecological stream restoration projects. Additionally, it promoted water management through continuous guidance and inspection of private sewage treatment and livestock manure facilities.

It also worked to improve the rate of realistic water supply and sewage charges and the water retention rate, and promoted the water industry through hosting water environment-related events and media publicity. Furthermore, by distributing eco-friendly effective microorganisms (EM), it presented a practical direction for citizens to improve water quality in daily life.

An official from Andong City stated, “We will strengthen our status as a leading water circulation city to preserve clean water and raise awareness of the preciousness of water resources.”
