Supporting Residents and Private Sports Facilities Amid COVID-19 Challenges

Jeju Island "10% Discount Support on Private Sports Facility Usage Fees"

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will encourage the use of private sports facilities by providing a 10% discount (up to 20,000 KRW per month) on usage fees when paying with NH Nonghyup Card or Jeju Bank Card at private sports facility businesses starting from the 1st of next month.

The 10% discount applies to both debit and credit cards except BC Card; debit card payments will be deposited into the personal account on the payment day, while credit cards will apply a billing discount method.

This year’s budget for the private sports facility usage fee discount support project is 330 million KRW, an increase of 80 million KRW compared to the previous year.

The support targets 10 types of private sports facilities: golf practice ranges, billiard halls, swimming pools, Pilates, comprehensive sports, martial arts dojangs, soccer fields, table tennis halls, tennis courts, and health clubs. The list of affiliated stores can be checked on the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Sports Council website under announcements.

Business owners wishing to apply for affiliation can contact the Life Sports Department of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Sports Council.

Ko Chun-hwa, Director of the Culture, Sports and External Cooperation Bureau of Jeju Province, said, “Along with expanding the private sports facility usage fee discount support project, we will proactively respond to the recovery from COVID-19 by promoting monthly 85,000 KRW support for sports class vouchers for vulnerable groups, including low-income youth aged 5 to 18 without disabilities and disabled persons aged 19 to 64, as well as 13 other life sports activation projects.”

Meanwhile, last year, 21,128 people benefited from the support project, generating a total sales revenue of 5.82 billion KRW.

It is evaluated that this contributed to increasing the income of private sports facility franchise owners who have been experiencing difficulties due to the extension of social distancing measures.
