[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun announced on the 21st that it will conduct a 'FMD Vaccine Mass Vaccination' targeting cattle and goat farms in the area for five weeks starting from the 25th to prevent foot-and-mouth disease and maintain cleanliness.
In this mass vaccination, livestock that have not reached 4 weeks after vaccination or are scheduled to be shipped within 2 weeks are excluded from the vaccination target.
The excluded livestock will be separately managed so that additional vaccinations can be administered after the mass vaccination.
Farms raising fewer than 50 cattle and 800 goats will receive vaccination support by mobilizing public and private veterinarians, while large-scale farms will purchase vaccines from the livestock cooperative and conduct self-vaccination.
Also, to confirm the mass vaccination of foot-and-mouth disease, antibody positivity rate monitoring tests will be conducted 4 weeks after the FMD vaccine vaccination.
Farms with antibody positivity rates below the standard (80% for cattle, 60% for goats and pigs) based on the test results will be designated as special management targets and will be subject to additional vaccinations, confirmation tests, quarantine inspections, and fines.
A county official said, “Voluntary disinfection by farms and timely vaccination are the best proactive blocking quarantine measures, so we ask for cooperation to ensure that the mass vaccination is completed within the period.”
