Support for Real-Time Remote Experiential Education for 4th-6th Grade Elementary Students and Childcare Institutions
Experience Activities Including 360-Degree VR Exhibition Viewing, Popup Book and 3D Card Making
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Hanseong Baekje Museum is supporting real-time remote history classes for elementary school classes and childcare institutions that have difficulty organizing group visits to the museum due to COVID-19.
On the 21st, the museum connects the Hanseong Baekje Museum and each class or institution interactively in real time through the video platform ZOOM. Even in school classrooms, students can tour the exhibition halls as if they were visiting the museum in person through 360-degree VR videos. Experiential learning is also available to explore the lifestyles of Baekje and Goguryeo through pop-up books and three-dimensional cards. This program will run from June 22 to July 8.
The classes are planned to flexibly respond to any situation such as different teaching methods by class including in-person or remote classes, students in self-quarantine, and schools located far from the museum. For the first semester of 2022, since the teaching method will be decided by school and class depending on the COVID-19 spread situation, the program will be operated as a remote class that can flexibly adapt to all situations including in-person classes, remote classes, and self-quarantine.
The educational programs consist of two types: Onjo History Experience Classroom and Museum Classroom Outside School. Each focuses on the history and culture of Baekje (Hanseong capital period) and Goguryeo, which were located in Seoul, providing elementary students with an opportunity to widely recognize ‘the historic city of Seoul.’
The Onjo History Experience Classroom offers a real-time remote class under the theme "Let’s go! To Hanseong, the Baekje Royal Capital," covering the lifestyle and technological development of Baekje (Hanseong capital period) that was located in Seoul. Before the class, students can first tour the Hanseong Baekje Museum exhibition halls through 360-degree VR videos in the classroom or at home, and then participate in audiovisual lessons and pop-up book making in real time at the scheduled time. Students can experience creating pop-ups depicting the Baekje royal fortress Pungnaptoseong and the lifestyle of Baekje people.
The Museum Classroom Outside School is themed "Step by Step, to the Han River of Goguryeo!" and is a lecture exploring Goguryeo’s advance into the Han River basin and the competition among the Three Kingdoms. Through making three-dimensional cards, students can experience recreating the view of the Goguryeo fortress at Achasan in the Han River basin and the daily life of soldiers.
Elementary schools or childcare institutions wishing to participate can apply through the Seoul Public Service Reservation website by the responsible teacher or institution staff, and will receive pre-education videos and experiential activity kits before the remote class.
Lee Kyung-ja, Head of Education and Public Relations at Hanseong Baekje Museum, said, “As museum visits became difficult due to COVID-19, we planned real-time remote classes. Through remote classes, students can safely learn non-face-to-face in any situation, and elementary students in distant areas can experience various contents of the Hanseong Baekje Museum anytime. We hope for active participation from elementary classes and childcare institutions.”
