Ministry of Industry Establishes 'Industrial Innovation Infrastructure Roadmap'... 3-Day Public Hearing

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] The government has begun collecting opinions to establish the 'Industrial Innovation Infrastructure Roadmap' to be utilized from next year.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 20th that it will hold regional public hearings to gather opinions to be reflected in the 'Industrial Innovation Infrastructure Roadmap.' The public hearings will be held sequentially in Seoul, Daegu, and Gwangju over three days starting from the 22nd. Considering the quarantine situation, the ministry plans to hold the hearings both online and offline simultaneously.

The Industrial Innovation Infrastructure project supports the demonstration and commercialization of small and medium-sized enterprises by establishing research and development (R&D) infrastructure through universities and public institutions. Since 2011, the ministry has invested 3.3 trillion won to establish 188 support centers nationwide and introduced 8,514 pieces of shared equipment through this project until last year.

Since August last year, the ministry has operated a 'Roadmap Establishment Planning Group' consisting of 24 members across six divisions. Through this group, they analyzed technology trends and prospects and prepared the '2023-2025 Industrial Innovation Infrastructure Roadmap' linked to the government's R&D strategy.

Over three days of regional public hearings, the ministry will broadly collect opinions from local governments, universities, and research institutions in the regional industry-academia-research sectors. Additionally, after expert consultations by field, the ministry plans to finalize and announce the roadmap next month. Once the roadmap is finalized, from next year, only executing institutions targeted by the annual tasks of the roadmap can apply for new projects without separate demand surveys.

Lee Jong-seok, Director of Industrial Technology Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, said, "We expect the project outcomes to improve dramatically through the strategic promotion of new projects considering technology trends," adding, "We will sufficiently collect opinions at this public hearing to prepare a reasonable roadmap that ensures investment in essential fields."
