Verification of Delivery Drone Safety and Efficiency
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Global robotics specialist company This is Engineering (TIE) announced on the 17th that it has been selected as a drone delivery operator for the '2022 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project' led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The Drone Demonstration City Construction Project is a project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to support drone utilization demonstrations tailored to regional characteristics. Nine local governments are participating, including Incheon City, Sejong City, Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province, Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province, Pocheon City, Wonju City in Gangwon Province, Gimcheon City in Gyeongbuk Province, Jeonju City in Jeonbuk Province, and Seosan City in Chungnam Province.
TIE is participating as one of the drone delivery demonstration companies in the project promoted by Seongnam City. Seongnam City plans to demonstrate a book delivery service using drones between Seongnam Library and the drone station, as well as autonomous flight technology. TIE is responsible for the overall establishment and operation of the book delivery drone service.
The book delivery drone project promoted by Seongnam City was initiated to reduce the inconvenience of borrowing books, bridge the gap in library infrastructure, and improve citizens' cultural activities through drone delivery. Citizens will be able to conveniently receive or return books at specially designed drone stations.
TIE is preparing a drone delivery service based on drones independently developed by the company. In particular, TIE's delivery drones are equipped with an autonomous flight system, ensuring high safety and cost efficiency by operating without drone pilots.
Through thorough service verification and testing in this demonstration city project, the safety and effectiveness of the delivery drone service will be validated, and the last mile delivery service will be expanded to more regions.
Hong Yoo-jung, CEO of TIE, said, "We plan to actively cooperate with Seongnam City and consortium partner companies so that drone delivery services can be introduced more quickly into daily life and industry, allowing many citizens to benefit."
