[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Former Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Kang Ki-jung commented on the 'Lee Jae-myung role theory' circulating inside and outside the Democratic Party of Korea, stating, "It is not appropriate for those responsible for this election and currently behind the scenes to immediately step to the forefront." He pointed out that it is undesirable for Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's Standing Adviser who lost the election, to take the lead at the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) formed after the party leadership resigned taking responsibility for the presidential election defeat.
On the 16th, Kang appeared on TBS Traffic Broadcasting's 'Shin Jang-sik's Shin Jang Open' and was asked about the early debut theory of Standing Adviser Lee Jae-myung and former Representative Lee Nak-yeon's local election candidacy. He replied, "They are all losers anyway, so it is not appropriate for losers to take the forefront," adding, "It seems that the role should be left to the new leadership centered on ERC Chairman Yoon Ho-jung."
He also advised Standing Adviser Lee, saying, "We need to study the steps taken by candidate Moon Jae-in, who lost in 2012," and "Lee should think more calmly about what kind of work he will do."
Regarding former Representative Lee Nak-yeon, who chose to go to the United States, Kang said, "Since he owes many people during the primary and election process, if those people run in the local elections, he should help them," adding, "He will probably prepare for that while going to and returning from the U.S., which is a very natural thing for a politician."
Currently, within the Democratic Party, the role theory of Standing Adviser Lee is emerging. Ahead of the local elections in June, there is an argument that Standing Adviser Lee should take the position of Emergency Response Committee Chairman and lead the party. Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Doo-kwan stated on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' that "The person who can fully embrace the enthusiasm from the presidential election and lead the local elections well is Standing Adviser Lee Jae-myung," advocating for an 'Lee Jae-myung ERC system.'
