Isomi vs Idayeon "Clash in Yeosu"... KLPGA 'Team Competition' Opens on 24th

Isomi vs Idayeon "Clash in Yeosu"... KLPGA 'Team Competition' Opens on 24th Isomi (left) and Dayeon Lee will clash in the 'Team Competition' ahead of the 2022 season opener.

[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] "Two-player team match."

Lee So-mi (23, SBI Savings Bank), ranked 6th in the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour prize money rankings, and Lee Da-yeon (25, Mediheal), ranked 8th, will clash in Yeosu. This will take place at the ‘Club Competition’ Doosan Construction SBI Savings Bank CUP Golf Club Championship held at The Ocean Golf Course in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, starting on the 24th. Although it is an event stage, it is drawing the spotlight as a ‘preview’ ahead of the 2022 season opener, the Lotte Rent-a-Car Women’s Open (total prize money 700 million KRW), which kicks off on the 7th of next month at Lotte Skyhill Golf Course in Jeju.

Fourteen clubs will participate, playing the preliminary round on the 24th and 25th in foursomes (two players alternate shots with one ball) stroke play, followed by the quarterfinals and semifinals in foursomes matches on the 26th, and the final on the 27th in four-ball (each player plays their own ball and the better score is counted) match play. It is interesting that there is no limit on the number of players per club, allowing changes in players each round. The different player lineups for each round add another point of interest.

Song Ga-eun (22, MG Saemaeul Geumgo) and Lee Ga-young (23, NH Investment & Securities) have joined the race for the championship. Kim Ji-hyun (31, Daebo Construction) and Kim Ji-young 2 (26, Hanwha Q CELLS), who have new sponsors this year, are key players to watch for potential matchups against their former teams. The winning team’s prize money is 30 million KRW. Each time a player makes a birdie, a certain amount is accumulated and donated to support underprivileged children. Considering COVID-19, the event will be held without spectators and all rounds will be broadcast live on SBS Golf Channel.
