US Customs Authorities Ban Imports of Chinese Sportswear Brand Li-Ning

[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] U.S. customs authorities announced that they will seize products from Chinese sportswear brand Li-Ning due to its use of North Korean labor.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stated on its website on the 15th (local time), "Starting from the 14th, all ports in the United States will seize goods manufactured or produced by Li-Ning."

This action follows CBP's investigation findings indicating that Li-Ning utilized North Korean labor in its supply chain. Importers must provide clear and convincing evidence within 30 days that the goods were not produced using prison labor, forced labor, or contract labor under criminal punishment; otherwise, the goods will be subject to seizure and forfeiture.

Li-Ning is a brand founded by Chinese Olympic gymnastics hero Li Ning, named after himself. Recently, the company also declared support for cotton produced in Xinjiang, China, which has been globally criticized for human rights abuses against the Uyghur population.
