Gyeongbuk 'Public Delivery App Meokgaebi' Surpasses 10 Billion KRW in Cumulative Transactions... 1 Billion KRW Saved in Small Business Fees

Gyeongbuk 'Public Delivery App Meokgaebi' Surpasses 10 Billion KRW in Cumulative Transactions... 1 Billion KRW Saved in Small Business Fees Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongbuk, seated together with the public delivery app Meokkebi.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongbuk Province announced that its public delivery app ‘Meokkebi’ surpassed a cumulative transaction amount of 10 billion KRW within six months of its official launch.

The province expects that the delivery order commission savings effect for local small business owners will exceed 1 billion KRW as a result.

Gyeongbuk’s public delivery app Meokkebi began service on September 9 last year targeting 11 cities and counties including Pohang and Gumi. Currently, it has recorded a cumulative membership of 117,000, 7,927 affiliated stores, and 474,000 cumulative orders, demonstrating successful operational performance.

In particular, local small business owners are seeing significant benefits from reduced delivery order commissions.

While private delivery apps generally require commissions of about 12?15%, including advertising fees, Meokkebi only charges a 1.5% commission without any advertising fees. This low commission rate is a great support for local small business owners struggling with the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and rising delivery fees.

The owner of a chicken franchise store located in Chilgok said, “We were selected as an excellent franchise store in November last year, and through Meokkebi, we have seen a monthly sales increase of 2 million KRW and delivery order commission savings of about 300,000 KRW, which greatly helps store operations.”

The owner of a Chinese restaurant in Gyeongsan said, “Not only are the commissions low, but consumers also leave many encouraging reviews saying ‘Cheer up’ when ordering. Our sales through Meokkebi exceed 1 million KRW every week, which gives us energy.”

Starting July this year, Gyeongbuk Province will expand the service from the existing 11 cities and counties to a total of 19, adding 8 more including Uljin, Yeongdeok, Uiseong, and Cheongdo. Various discount promotions will be conducted together with these areas.

In particular, since Uljin was declared a special disaster area by the government due to a large-scale forest fire, the province will provide full support to ensure that Meokkebi service can be implemented there as soon as possible. Special discount events will also be promoted for forest fire victims and small business owners.

Discount promotions for consumers include a 5,000 KRW discount coupon for first orders upon new registration, a 3,000 KRW coupon every Sunday, a double discount benefit where additional discounts are given equal to the amount the affiliated store voluntarily reduces the food price, and various promotions during anniversaries or major festivals and events in each city and county.

To enable consumers to order food more affordably, the province is promoting the use of local love gift certificates that offer a 10% discount at purchase and is also pursuing linkage with traditional market Onnuri gift certificates.

Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, “When using Meokkebi, 10% of the order amount returns to local small business owners. I hope many people use Meokkebi to help local small business owners who are going through difficult times. We will do our best to provide various benefits that consumers can also enjoy and to support local small business owners and implement measures to revive the local economy.”
