High-Efficiency Implementation Through High-Side and Low-Side Switch Synchronization
MagnaChip Semiconductor (CEO Youngjoon Kim, NYSE:MX) announced on the 16th the launch of a synchronous boost converter applied to various applications such as NAND flash for SSDs, OLED panels, and Bluetooth speakers.
The newly released synchronous boost converter features a fast transient response function that reduces voltage fluctuations in a short time and supports stable power supply, making it optimized for devices with large current variations.
A notable point of this product is that by synchronizing low-resistance switches, it has reduced the no-load operating current to a maximum of 1.5mA compared to 2mA of asynchronous boost converters from other companies. When the power is turned off, the built-in power cutoff switch prevents the input power from being discharged to the output pin. Additionally, by adjusting the external capacitor and resistor values, a soft start function can be used. When this function operates, it limits the sudden inrush current, enabling stable power supply to external circuits.
This synchronous boost converter implements overcurrent, overvoltage, and overheating protection functions for electronic circuit protection, output charge discharge function, and undervoltage lockout function in a small 2.5mm x 2.5mm DFN (Dual Flat No Leads) package. It operates at a high switching frequency of 1.2MHz, allowing connection of a small-sized 4.7μH inductor externally, which reduces the size of the printed circuit board. Furthermore, in compliance with halogen-free regulations and RoHS (Restriction of the Use of certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment), only packaging free of harmful substances is used, striving for environmentally friendly and sustainable semiconductor product manufacturing.
MagnaChip CEO Youngjoon Kim said, “MagnaChip has developed power solutions embedded in TVs, lighting, display panels, mobile, and IoT devices over the past 10 years,” and added, “Based on proven technology, we will apply functions such as voltage buck-boost, multichannel, amplifiers, and power cutoff switch ICs to various products, expanding our next-generation product portfolio composed of integrated power management semiconductors.”
