Presentation of Assessment Activities for Teaching and Learning: Questions, Discussions, and Writing
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 15th that it will develop and distribute a descriptive and essay-type evaluation model linked to discussion, debate, and writing classes to educational sites.
The materials created by the Office of Education target seven subjects in middle and high schools (Korean, Mathematics, Social Studies, Ethics/Morality, History, Science, English). They present evaluation activities related to questioning, debating, and writing.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education encourages middle and high schools to conduct descriptive and essay-type evaluations for at least 20% of semester grades through the 2022 student evaluation enhancement plan.
Rather than focusing on developing evaluation questions, the materials are designed to enable teachers to provide feedback to students based on formative and performance assessments as well as written tests of descriptive and essay types.
The evaluation model was developed mainly by active teachers and refined based on their experience applying it to classes and assessments during the last semester.
The materials titled "Practicing Descriptive and Essay-Type Evaluation Linked to Classes" are available on the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education website under the Secondary Education Department's work section.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to hold an academy on April 16 under the theme "Practicing Descriptive and Essay-Type Evaluation Linked to Classes."
Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "For genuine learning and improvement of thinking skills, a self-directed learning process that reflects questioning, debating, writing, evaluation, and feedback is necessary," adding, "We will continuously support students so that they can prepare for descriptive and essay-type evaluations without relying on private education."
