Their face-to-face meeting will be the first in 21 months since President-elect Yoon visited the Blue House in June 2020 to attend the Anti-Corruption Policy Council, and just one week after the election on the 9th.
During this meeting, a broad exchange of opinions on overall state affairs is expected. Additionally, President-elect Yoon is likely to request a pardon for former President Lee as part of 'national unity.' Amid speculation about a special pardon ahead of Buddha’s Birthday (May 8), which is the day before President Moon’s term ends, the Democratic Party of Korea is also raising the necessity of pardoning former President Lee.
