[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Wonjin Lee] An analysis article on the cause of former No Moo-hyun Foundation Chairman Yoo Si-min's presidential election defeat, which was reported by an online media outlet, has been revealed to be 'fake news.' Yoo's side has reportedly expressed intentions to take legal action.
On the 14th, numerous news links titled "Yoo Si-min Writer's Analysis of the Presidential Election Defeat" were posted on online communities. The article was written in a format that seemed to directly present Yoo's analysis.
The content cited five main reasons for the defeat of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, including sensational YouTube content and the Democratic Party's shift toward conservatism. It also contained provocative claims that the public's level had regressed to the 20th century.
However, Yoo Si-min never made such an analysis, and the article was confirmed to be fake news. The online media outlet that reported the article stated, "Since the Facebook post was sent by someone who served as a university president, we believed it to be true and reported the full content," adding, "We sincerely apologize to writer Yoo Si-min. The article published on our site has been deleted."
Meanwhile, Hwang Hee-du, director of the No Moo-hyun Foundation, tweeted, "Writer Yoo plans to take immediate legal action against the media outlet," and added, "Once it spreads, it becomes uncontrollable, so please share this with others."
