Gwangju Dong-gu Strengthens Mandatory Installation and Expands Inspection of Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 11th that it will strengthen the mandatory installation standards for electric vehicle charging facilities in accordance with this year's revision of the Eco-friendly Vehicle Act, and expand the scope of crackdowns on charging interference acts.

Previously, only apartment complexes with 500 or more households were required to install electric vehicle charging facilities, but due to the revision of the law, apartment complexes with 100 or more households must install electric vehicle charging facilities on at least 5% of the total parking spaces.

The crackdown targets for electric vehicle charging interference acts will be expanded from the existing mandatory installation charging facilities to all charging zones, and if acts that interfere with charging in charging zones and dedicated parking spaces are detected, fines will be imposed from 100,000 KRW to 200,000 KRW.

However, the district plans to operate an intensive publicity and guidance period until the end of June to minimize confusion among citizens due to the imposition of fines, and will impose fines starting from July.

The subjects of fines include ▲parking by general vehicles ▲parking on access roads and surrounding areas or stacking objects to interfere with charging ▲using charging facilities for other purposes.

In addition, long-term parking of electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles in charging zones will also be subject to crackdown.

A Dong-gu official said, “We expect that the revision of the law this year will increase the convenience for eco-friendly vehicle users,” and added, “We will actively promote the changes to residents and establish a proper eco-friendly vehicle usage culture.”
