A Feast of Southern Sea Islands at a Glance... Geoje Panorama Cable Car Set to Operate Soon

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The so-called ‘Hallyeohaesang National Park,’ a southern sea where islands and the sea mingle, creating a spectacle that makes it hard to tell whether the islands are holding the water or floating on the sea.

A cable car that allows you to fully enjoy this breathtaking scenery will soon be launched.

Until now, the Hallyeo Strait has been appreciated through boat tours or by relying on paintings and photographs to capture the beauty of the scenery.

Now, it is possible to take a trip where you can ‘capture’ the stunning views of the southern sea islands and the sea intertwined at a glance.

Geoje, Gyeongnam, is preparing to open the ‘Geoje Panorama Cable Car,’ aiming to attract 10 million tourists. The first operation is scheduled for the 19th.

Construction began in March 2018 with a project cost of 75.6 billion KRW. After four years of construction, the Geoje Panorama Cable Car recently applied for completion approval for urban planning facilities and various permits.

The cable car operates on a 1.56 km section from Hakdong Pass in Dongbu-myeon, Geoje City, to Nojasan Observatory. Forty-five cabins operate, accommodating up to 2,000 people per hour.

The ‘viewpoint’ at the upper station of the cable car, where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the Hallyeo Strait, is spectacular.

Jung Jae-heon, CEO of Geoje Cable Car, proudly said, “The Panorama Cable Car will become a representative landmark of Geoje tourism, along with Haegumgang and Wind Hill.”

CEO Jung added, “We aim to revive the local economy, which has been stagnant due to the prolonged spread of COVID-19, and create direct and indirect employment through the expansion of tourism infrastructure.”

Geoje City is also nearing completion of the Nojasan Tourist Deck Road construction around the upper cable car station, which will provide various attractions for cable car users and hikers.
